Types of traditional Indian halwa

India is a land of desserts, be it the rice pudding or the famous laddoos. However, amongst all these desserts, the halwa has become the traditional dessert of every region of the country. Here, we have discussed four different halwa recipes which you should try for the coming festival.  

Moong dal halwa Recipe

Ingredients 

  • 1 cup Nestlé Everyday Shahi Ghee
  • 3 tbsp almonds 
  • 3 tbsp chopped pistachios 
  • 1 tin Nestlé MILKMAID
  • 3 cups Nestlé a+ Nourish milk 
  • 3 tbsp raisins 
  • 1 cup moong dal

Recipe 

  • Soak moong dal for 30 minutes, and then grind into a coarse paste. 
  • Add the ghee into a pan and then add the paste. Cook it in low flame till the paste turns golden brown. 
  • Add milk to the pan and continue to stir the mixture. 
  • Cook on a low flame until the milk dries. 
  • Add the Nestlé MILKMAID and again stir until the desired consistency is achieved. 
  • Transfer it to serving bowls and add the almonds, pistachios, and raisins. 

Gajar halwa 

Ingredients 

  • 25 gms raisins 
  • 1 kg grated carrots 
  • 25 gms chopped cashews
  • 2 tbsp Nestlé Everyday Ghee
  • 1 ltr Nestlé a+ Nourish milk 
  • ½ tin Nestlé MILKMAID

Recipe 

  • Add the carrots and milk into a pan and bring the contents to a boil. 
  • Lower the flame and cook the mixture with occasional stirring till the milk gets absorbed. 
  • Add the Nestlé MILKMAID to the content and cook on low flame. 
  • After it gets dried, add the ghee and cook for the next ten minutes. 
  • Transfer it to serving bowls and add the nuts and raisins. 

Watermelon halwa 

Ingredients 

  • 4 watermelon rind
  • 1 tbsp rava 
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • A pinch of cardamom powder
  • ½ Nestlé MILKMAID
  • 2 tbsp besan 
  • 3-4 tbsp Nestlé Everyday Ghee
  • 2-3 tbsp chopped almonds and pistachios

Recipe 

  • Put the Nestlé MILKMAID in a pressure cooker and allow three to four whistles to pass to make the caramelized MILKMAID. 
  • Collect the watermelon flesh and transfer it into a blender to form a paste. 
  • Add ghee, and then add the besan and semolina to a pan. Cook the mixture for 2 to 4 minutes. 
  • Add the watermelon paste and stir until all the water is absorbed and the ghee separates. 
  • Add the caramel MILKMAID along with sugar and again mix it. 
  • Transfer it into bowls and garnish with the nuts and cardamom powder. 

 

Anjeer halwa 

Ingredients 

  • 500 ml Nestle a+ Nourish milk 
  • 250 grams dried and finely chopped figs 
  • 200 gm Nestlé MILKMAID
  • 2 tbsps Nestlé Everyday Shahi Ghee
  • 8 to 10 blanched and shredded almonds 

Recipe 

  • After soaking the figs into warm milk, grind both the contents into a fine paste in a blender, making sure no lump is there. 
  • Take a pan and heat the ghee. Add the Nestlé MILKMAID and the paste of fig and milk. 
  • Cook on a medium gas flame and stir the mixture until it leaves the side. 
  • Serve with chopped almonds at the top.
