Three Tips for a Great Day at the Lake

There’s something about a day at the lake that can be so much more memorable than a day at a park, even if the activities may be generally the same. Lakes are naturally beautiful, and you don’t want anything to take away from that experience while you’re out enjoying the scenery. Whether you’re on a hike, driving to the lake or fishing, here are a few things you can do to make sure you have a great time.

Prepare for Bugs

Two things you’re bound to find at any lake are water and bugs. It’s common to find an increased measure of mosquitos around lakes — particularly in the evenings — so make sure you are prepared with something for mosquito bite relief. mosquitoes aren’t the only bugs you’ll find, but they are likely to be amongst the most bothersome. You can also prepare by wearing adequate clothing to help keep the bugs at bay, and you can use sunscreen to try avoiding the bites in the first place.

Bring Sunscreen

When people visit lakes, it’s common for them to be outside hours at a time. Even if it’s cloudy outside, you can still get sunburned, so make sure you have sunscreen with you. Not only does the act of being outside for that long increase your chances of exposure and sun damage, but water also reflects off water, which can exacerbate sunburns. You especially want to make sure you are prepared for the sun and those reflections if you are going to be out on the lake. Bringing protective, clothing such as hats, and portable sources of shade can help keep you comfortable.

Turn Some Pages

Seeing somebody reading on the edge of a lake is a very common sight. This makes sense because it’s often easy to find a quiet spot at lakes, and with the waves gently rolling along, it’s a great atmosphere for reading. In fact, some people will listen to manufactured waves as a focus aid. No matter why you’re at the lake, it never hurts to bring a book along.

By following these tips, you can be properly prepared for a great day at the lake. By being aware of the weather and insects, you can plan accordingly for what kinds of activities you may do, but sometimes the best thing to do at a lake is to simply be there and enjoy beauty of it all.
