We know that Physics is one of the branches of Science. The primary objective of studying this subject is to understand the behavior of matter and energy. Matter and energy are considered to be the basic constituents of natural science and technology. Further, Physics is classified as classical physics and modern physics.
Physics is all about laws such as Lenz’s law, Newton’s laws of motions, gravitational law, etc, and definitions such as density definition, the definition of relative velocity, etc and their applications.
What are the Branches of Physics?
There are seven branches of Physics and they are:
- Modern Physics
- Optics
- Classical mechanics
- Thermodynamics
- Electromagnetism
- Astrophysics
- Nuclear physics
The main classifications of Physics are classical physics and modern physics. Up to 1900 AD, Physics was considered as classical physics. Mechanics, optics, sound and wave motion, heat and thermodynamics, and electromagnetism are the subdivisions of classical physics.
Modern physics came into existence after the twentieth century. Atomic physics, nuclear physics, quantum physics, the theory of relativity, cosmology and space exploration, and mesoscopic physics are the main subdivisions of modern physics.
What is Modern Physics?
Modern Physics involves the study of new theories that are different from classical physics and is mainly concerned with quantum mechanics and Einstein’s theory of relativity. Albert Einstein is known as the father of modern physics. A twentieth-century physicist has contributed many essential theories and laws which we use today. We are all known to the famous theory, the theory of relativity and the famous equation E = mc2.
What is Optics?
In optics, we study the behavior and the properties of light and its interaction with the matter. The behavior of visible, ultraviolet, and infrared light is mainly studied in optics. We know that light is an electromagnetic wave and other forms of electromagnetic radiation such as microwaves, radio waves, and X-rays exhibit similar properties.
What is Classical Mechanics?
This includes the study of the motion of objects which was first enunciated by Sir Isaac Newton. Classical mechanics is considered to be the first branch of Physics and also the foundation for all the other branches. Classical mechanics find applications in astronomy where the movements of heavenly bodies are studied, chemistry where the motion of molecules is studied, in geology where the motion of the earthquake waves which is also known as seismic waves are studied.
What is Acoustic?
Acoustic is also considered to be one of the branches of Physics. This branch deals with the study of sound and sound waves. Also, the propagation of sound, characteristics of sound, etc. This branch introduces us to different terms such as frequency definition, the definition of amplitude, wavelength, time period, and how these terms are interrelated.
